Resveratrol May Slow Alzheimer’s Disease

A superstar ingredient in anti-aging certainly is the antioxidant resveratrol.  Resveratrol is known as an excellent defense against free radicals. But now, researchers are discovering that antioxidant may do more to help delay aging; it can help slow down a horrible degenerative brain disease.

Recently reported on Time.com, studies show that resveratrol, occurring naturally in grapes, red wine and dark chocolate, can slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

In this study of participants who had mild or moderate Alzheimer’s disease, half of them took 1,000 mg of resveratrol daily, and the other half a placebo.

Dr. R. Scott Turner, professor of neurology and director of the memory disorders program at Georgetown University Medical Center, reported that participants on resveratrol in this study showed “slight improvements in their ability to maintain certain daily activities on their own, such as dressing and bathing themselves.”  And the resveratrol group also showed a smaller brain volume, which they interpret as good, since Alzheimer’s causes inflammation and swelling that can interfere with nerve connections in the brain.

So naturally, we should all stock up on cases of wine, right?  Well, researchers are now saying there might not be enough of this substance in red wine to actually make a difference to slow down Alzheimer’s. This study used CONCENTRATED does of resveratrol and they are doing this research to come up with a DRUG to target Alzheimer’s.

You don’t have to throw out wine all together – drinking wine still reduces risk of coronary artery disease and stroke, but the key is to drink it in moderation.

Wine or no wine, you can take a resveratrol pill.  Or, you can do what I do and DRINK a resveratrol supplement blended with other antioxidant juices such as dark sweet cherry juice, blueberry juice concentrate, concord grape and pomegranate juice, aloe vera, acai and green tea.  This is particular great for anyone who wants a high concentration but can’t swallow a big pill.  And it’s a portable way to drink your anti-oxidants with very low added sugar.  I personally love this product!
