April 2, 2015 is Everyone Matters Day.
Hmmm…cynic that I’ve become, my first thought was: shouldn’t everyone matter EVERY day? But hear this out:
What Everyone Matters Day is All About:
People around the world will jointly celebrate their individually and personhood and acknowledge everyone’s right to dignity and respect, and to be allowed the freedom to be who they are, without shame, judgement, attack or censure.
It was that guy who was in the video with that rapper (LOL) who said it best:
Everyone Matters is passionate about changing the face of beauty and encouraging everyone to see him or herself as beautiful. This has been my message all along and I really resonate with it.
Everyone Matters believes that “EVERYONE has the right to be who they are – without shame, judgment, attack or censure.” By accepting everyone’s differences, we will be better equipped to see and learn from all the uniqueness in the world.
The mission of Everyone Matters is to raise awareness that EVERYONE is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect, and to be allowed to be exactly who they are – including ourselves.
As part of Everyone Matters Day, there’s a social media campaign going on where you can upload a selfie holding a pice of paper with the words #I AM. At first, I thought this was limiting and defining. Why do I want to DEFINE myself into one word?
But, the point is that on Everyone Matters Day, you can take that selfie and upload it with your #I AM to say whatever you want. You can be WHATEVER you want.

Sick of Selfies
It’s a day to celebrate yourself and who you are and accept others for who they are too. It’s about joining the movement and being a part of change. Being less judgemental and also changing the face of beauty. And as Fran Drescher quotes, becoming happier in the process:
Everyone Matters Day is expecting hundreds of thousands of people to upload their #IAM selfie tomorrow, April 2, 2015.
The Everyone Matters website says:
“The #IAM selfie is pride in identity — acceptance of who we are, as we are – anything about us. A celebration of self.”
Celebrities involved include Natalie Portman, His Holiness Dali Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Jackman and more:
Speaking of changing the face of beauty, this young lady is a member of Everyone Matters. She is downright INSPIRING:
If we set aside ONE day to celebrate that Everyone Matters, then hopefully the effects of that one day will spill over into others days and hopefully EVERY DAY. It’s really a great message. One that can inspire other people to be kinder, bully less and have less judgement in their hearts towards how people look, speak, act, talk, etc.
I love this quote from Jeff Skoll of the Skoll Foundation:
So, get out your selfie sticks, people!
What are YOU writing on your #I AM sign when you take your selfie?
I would like to congratulate myself on becoming the unofficial ambassador for Everyone Matters Day.
In fact, I’d like to announce it here:
#I AM The Unofficial Ambassador for Everyone Matters Day.
You DO Matter, and as a matter of fact, my official advice for what you should put on your #IAM sign is #IAM Beautiful,
