Juicing Your Way to Good Health: Getting Started with the Black & Decker Fruit & Veggie Juice Extractor And An Easy Peezy Juice Recipe for Noobies

I’m soooo guilty of SAYING “I’m going to get a juicer.  I’m going to get a juicer.”  Why?  Naturally, to get more fruits and veggies in my diet.  Sadly, when it came to pulling the trigger, I never did.  I saw all the expensive juicers out there and wasn’t sure if this was going to be for me. I was actually TALKED OUT of buying a juicer by friends.  They said, “I don’t think you’ll like it” and “You’re not going to get the fiber from the fruits and veggies, just the juice.”

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here to say that if you announce to your friends that you want to do something to IMPROVE your health, if your friends don’t say “Hey, that’s great, good for you for wanting to get more veggies in your diet” or “Cool, get one,” then you need an ENTIRELY NEW group of friends.

So, if you want to try juicing to see what it’s all about and are on a tight budget, sell your friends and buy a Black & Decker Je2200 400w Electric Fruit & Vegetable Juicer.

Black and Decker was awesome and sent me one of their juicers to check out.  This is a Centrifugal Juice Extractor.  This means the food is pushed into a wildly spinning stainless steel mesh chamber with teeth, which shred the veggie or fruit and the centrifugal motion pulls the juice through the filter and down into the spigot.  Viola!

Juicing is SO easy.  And it won’t break the bank to get started with this Black and Decker appliance.  It is great for a juicer who is looking to experiment at home and is new to the trend.  In fact, if you are an individual or have a small family, this is the IDEAL juicer to get started in juicing, because the price point is just $30.00-$40.00 depending on where you buy.

This Black & Decker juicer is sturdy and stable.  I love how when you flip the switch and it sounds like it’s a mini-aircraft about to take off.  I’m impressed with the powerful motor and really enjoyed pushing in whole carrots and cucumbers sliced length-wise.  Those teeth really do a good job!

This is the kind of juicer that yes, leaves the pulp, but the container an easily be dumped out.  Keep an eye on the container, because it can fill quickly and you don’t want it to overflow.

Ideas to Use the Pulp From Your Juicer

Instead of dumping out the container, why not use that pulp to feed your compost garden?

And if your conscious about HOW you juice, you can save the pulp to make delicious bread or muffins. – Say for example, you are juicing a recipe with carrots – just juice all your carrots first, dump out the pulp and there you have it.

Juicing cucumbers?  Save the pulp to whip up a Home DYI beauty mask.

The Black & Decker Juicer in Action

What’s better than having a Black & Decker Je2200 400w Electric Fruit & Vegetable Juicer?

Having someone come over and CLEAN your juicer after you have your juice.  You are going to want to clean the plastic top where the food goes regularly and even get a small brush to get into the tight corners and you’ll definitely want to get a sturdy brush to brush out that stainless steel mesh filter after use.

One little thing that this DOESN’T have is a safety mechanism which will turn off the machine if it’s not put together properly.  Like for example, if you space out and forget to close one of the side hinges, or latches, the machine will still work.  That would be a nice added bonus feature to have, but not a deal breaker, as long as you pay attention when assembling, which we all should be doing anyway.

As for my friends that said I wouldn’t like juicing?  They were wrong!  And I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to eat a few carrots and a bowl of spinach for breakfast, but now I can reap the nutrients cuz I have my Black and Decker juicer.  And later on, with a bigger budget, if I want to try an emulsifier that keeps the fiber, I can, but I’m not just doing NOTHING for my health.  And I sip my juice happily knowing I am no longer surrounded by Negative Nellies.

Remember to Wash Your Produce and Start Slow

I highly recommend getting a good veggie wash to wash off as many pesticides as you can, or get organic produce where you can.

Know those reality show where somebody gets a juicer and they all get excited and grab whatever’s in their fridge and they juice it and blend it all together?

Yeah, don’t do that.

Here’s a nutritious starter recipe for your juicer that you can BUILD with.

Starter Recipe For Juicers

1 cucumber

1 apple

a few spinach leaves

This is light, refreshing and you will love it.  The apple lends a sweetness to this drink and the cucumbers are low-calorie and loaded with phytonutrients and vitamins.

Once you’ve mastered this recipe, you can start adding MORE spinach and then MORE spinach and kale, and then even walk on the wild side and add some ginger for some zing and anti-inflammatory benefits. Your body will thank you!

I’m EXTREMELY happy that I was able to try this machine and can share with people that it’s not too late to start juicing and that you can get started with the ideal, low-cost juicer now.

Juice It, Juice It Good,

Black and Decker supplied a juicer for product review.  All opinions are my own.  Black and Decker can help you brew the coffee, toast the muffins and make the juice.  Look for Black and Decker products at your local retail store, or check out the products above.
